On October 8, 2009, the United States House of Representatives unanimously passed H.R. 3590, the Service Members Homeownership Tax Act of 2009. This bill extends the $8,000 first-time home buyer tax credit for one year to members of the military serving overseas at least 90 days in 2009 .
