Town History:
In 1860 only 15 families resided in Ridgefield Park, with stages bringing people into New York. In 1886, the first school was built and by 1888 the population had grown to almost five hundred people, with farming as the principal occupation. By that time there were thirty nine school children and one teacher. The village form of government was instituted by 1892 with a territory of 620 acres.
